  1. The American Tail movie series

If you're a true 90s kid you'd recognize Fievel Mousekewitz in a blink of an eye. If you don't, then you had no childhood. Basically, American Tails is a children's movie about a Russian family of mice immigrating to America in the hopes of making a better life. It's a cliché immigration story of a poor family going through the good, the bad, and the ugly of being immigrants.

As our culture becomes more and more media-oriented, shows like "America's Got Talent" thrive by promising Americans the opportunity for anyone to audition and become a superstar. The popularity and status that they accumulate over the years make them extremely desirable to anyone who dreams of performing. Then, they continue to grow in fame by skyrocketing careers for people who do thrive in their show. They definitely epitomize the idea that many Americans have about working hard to become good at something, getting their big break, and then being recognized for that thing and becoming successful. And, the incredible performances they produce are SO much fun to watch!

This video speaks on whether college pays off or not. I may use this as my research topic. Many people who are not in College have told me they don't see the value in getting an education because many times you don't get employed. I wanted to see if that statement has any validity.

    1. Many job opportunities want some experience before they can hire you but its hard to find a job that will allow you to work and learn under them without them requiring experience.

    2. This is a very in depth topic with many conflicting opinions. Nowadays it is possible to build your career without a college degree and it is something that many people have done.

    3. Same. My cousin graduated last year and he still having trouble finding a job. It's an eye opener considering he graduated from nyu.

    5. It perfectly relates to our own issues considering we are college students only hoping we find jobs after graduating.

  4. http://www.alternet.org/civil-liberties/original-american-dream-was-not-about-getting-rich
The original concept of the American Dream wasn't to become rich and famous but to self govern in a new land away from a royal dictatorship. Yet the common misconception of the "American Dream" now is to get wealthy and famous.

    1. I agree with the article as people in today's world are excepted to be given everything yet that was never promised.

    2. It kinda shows how people are kinda selfish wanting to be big and famous.

    3. It certainly is true that the American Dream to us is far different to that of the Founding Fathers, but that's reasonable. After all, we're an established nation and global superpower at this point in time, and thus our priorities as people changed.

This article is the story of one persons personal interaction with the American dream and how they still believe in it. The article tells their story from immigration as a child to adulthood in America and how they lead an example of the American dream

    1. The article is inspiring as it shows how someone can start off with almost nothing and end up fine. It explains how no one was ever promised anything in America besides opportunities and how you have to work your way up

    2. Immigration really does color a persons persective on America and how the dream is overall. I notice, at least anecdotally, that more immigrants feel the Dream is alive than citizens born here.

In the famous film featuring Will Smith, The pursuit of happiness, it shows us even when your at the very bottom you can still make it big if you work hard enough. This shows the media enforcing the idea of how the American dream exist as with films like this or the social network it has real people go places in life which somewhat inspires the audience.

  9. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2016/09/17/texas-border-wall-trump/90503360/

Part of the American Dream is the approach that no matter what you do, you can succeed. With the addition of the wall proposed by Trump, illegal immigrants won't be able to afford to pursue their American Dream. Now all though they are illegal, they do produce tremendous revenue as well as covering the jobs Americans won't do.

  10. http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/data-mine/2016/02/03/even-americans-cant-afford-the-american-dream

We all know what the American Dream includes; the ability to achieve luxuries with hard work and determination. Luxuries such as owning a home/property, a car, not having to starve, and even having pocket change (disposable cash) to go out in town with the family. This article argues that even the average American can no longer afford this dream, the lifestyle seems to be more of a "fantasy". Researchers decided to do a study: They went country to country and ultimately discovered that there isn't a single country on the map where an average wage worker could afford these luxuries. Even more interesting is the fact that "the average consumer in Saudi Arabia and Oman are actually closer to financing these socioeconomic goals than the average American".

    1. That definitely seems about right. Most people aren't able to afford the lavish lifestyle associated with the American Dream, and that's not considering the lack of social mobility within the country. We have a lot of economic troubles for the middle class, and as such many struggle without experiencing the promise of the dream, at least how most would envision it.

This is a meme about the American Dream. It states, "What if the American Dream is a lie to make us work harder." In my point of view, I strongly believe that this is the case because not many people get far enough to the point where they get somewhere along the lines of the American Dream.

This picture is a quote that essentially talks about how the American Dream was no more after the events of the JFK Assassination, Watergate, and the Vietnam War. I think it's relevant to our own thoughts about the American Dream today because we still have corrupt politicians, scandals, and costly wars bringing down our people as a whole, and as such many people are losing sight of the American Dream.

This is a video relating on The American Dream and in the video, it is shown demonstrating the collapse of the American Dream. Instead of using boring old facts , the video is actually animated. The video briefly explains that banks are the evil., but many argue that the government is the great evil. Some people are slowly starting to believe that the whole idea of " The American Dream" is a utter lie. Unfortunately, I disagree because I believe that if you work hard, you will start to earn money and will achieve your ultimate goals.
