SUMMARY This is an article in an educational journal. It is written by
David Hill, Director of Facilities and Operations, Blue Valley School District
in Kansas. Hill appears knowledgeable about developing a lightning safety plan
for educational institutions. 2-3
SENTENCES EVALUATION This is a concise article that concludes with a link to
another comprehensive site on lightning safety for institutions. This article
seems reliable and objective and is from a reputable periodical in the
education field. Specifically, there is a detailed history of lightning strikes
causing injury to unprepared humans, as well as an explanation of all pieces of
prevention advice. Both points are significant pieces of evidence in my
argument.

Essay #2
Writers and academics
like Ta-Nehisi Coates combine personal experiences, historical research and
academic critical theory in their texts. They do so by creating an engaging and
cohesive recollection of a firsthand experience with a social and/or political
issue. Read the excerpt from Coates’ Between
the World and Me and notice how he interprets personal experiences through
the lens of social and/or political issues.
Consider a memorable personal experience with a
current social and/or political issue you’ve had, and compose a 2-3 page essay
describing the experience, its impact and overall meaningfulness in terms of
how it changed or enhanced your understanding of the issue.
Of course, we keep all of
our experiences as memories; and memories are fallible and malleable. When we
write about an experience, we are recreating our memories on paper, so you are
always doing creative work while practicing any kind of writing. So lastly, please consider how the act of
articulating this experience in writing has changed or enhanced your
understanding of the issue and/or of yourself.
