This movie is currently out in theaters and is about a slaveowner who realizes how harsh and unfair treatment of slaves is. He decides he can no longer just stand by and rebels against the South in an attempt to gain equality for all. A big part of the American Dream is equal opportunity which is something the main character is advocating for.

    1. Saw the trailer for this a while back and it's interesting to find out how historically accurate the movie is

    2. Equal opportunity is a huge reason why many people immigrate to America and hope to achieve. The movie shows the fight some people need to take to reach that equality.

Fresh of the Boat is a comedy tv series on ABC. It's unique in that it's one of the few (maybe one of two) "major" tv series that centers around an Asian American family. Basically, the whole series centers on the idea that Asian Americans tend to deal with two identity crises.
In a country that is supposedly multi-cultural, how come Asian Americans subtly get pushed aside? Why are we deemed the "submissive" race? It's like, as my mother likes to put it, a double standard within a double standard; double standard^2. It's one of the potential research topics that I would like to delve into.

    1. I've watched an episode or two of that series and you've pretty much perfectly summed up the hidden message or idea the show tries to bring besides being a comedy.

Body modifications is a topic I'm currently researching and how it is deemed by the American culture and society. The article like the title describes and determines how tattoos are in society, do they still have a bad reputation with gangs or is it now more of a form of expression.

    1. I think that people who do modifications with their bodies such as having tattoo's or piercings in weird places are brave for not fearing the regret afterwards.

    2. I think as of late, it's becoming more as a form of expression, but I'd love to see if I'm wrong

The daily show is a talk,news/ satire show. But even though it is a comedy show it does show the american culture of today. This can be seen with one of their where they interview trump supporters or interviewing police about the recent events. It gives us a laugh but also information sometimes better than news outlits.

This is one of my choices for the research paper, and we for a long time have ignored serious conditions and brushed them off as nothing. This has a negative effect on how it can be treated. if no one admits to being sick then how can we help prevent it in the future?

This article mainly touches upon the views of many Americans that shows that they think the American dream is dead. Later in the article its mentioned that the American dream is what can be achieved through the abilities of the individual. The article also talks about how many Americans believe the American dream is guaranteed rather than earned. It's interesting to see the attitude that many people have towards the American dream.

This blog post, written by Allison Lantagne, explains the paradox of gender roles being portrayed throughout media. It's obvious in all forms of media, including advertisements, television, and film, they are empirical in culture. Lantagne states "Gender roles, as an example, exist solely because society as a whole chooses to accept them, but they are perpetuated by the media."

This is a blog post/ article , written by Andrew Serge explaining the situation to as why he strongly believes that The American Dream is now something that Americans can't afford because millions across the country and around the world bought into the idea that hard work and determination in the U.S. could turn this hard challenging life into good one. Sergeol argues that it is indeed very expensive.

This is a slide show of 10 people who are prime examples of the American Dream. Examples like Jay-Z,Oprah Winfrey and Arnold Shwarzeneger(something like that). They started from nothing and became millionaires and billionaires.

This 2009 biopic showcased the short life of Christopher Wallace a.k.a. Biggie Smalls. It showed his rise from drug dealer to rap king and later death. It proved that anyone can achieve the American Dream if they put their mind to it.
