This is a pretty long interview with MF Doom, a rapper/producer who debuted with his brother, DJ subroc and fellow MC Onyx in a group called KMD. I advocate that anyone who wants to know about Doom begin with his music because it is profoundly interesting and unique. I'm trying to use this interview and many like it to discern the various styles and methodologies of hip hop. While Doom's beginning in NY is nothing new he didn't grow up in nyc, but rather long island which automatically separates him from other groups and acts. Aside from that he's a direct representative of the American Dream, and he gained most of his fame and wealth from behind "the mask" which is a vital symbolic tool he discusses partially within the video.

A Muslim student is interviewed about her thoughts on Donald Trump's presidency and says that his idea of an American Dream is evil. According to the student, the American Dream used to be about finding your place and enhancing the standard of living for you and your family but Trump's values and beliefs will ultimately TRUMP these opportunities.

    1. This is legitimately sad, mainly because the idea of trump limiting opportunities for Muslims is a very real possibility.

    2. That pun at the end was clever, but in all seriousness it's the possibility of it becoming a reality that is really scary

On the note of everything that is horrible and political in the world right now, taking a moment to browse Bernie's website can provide a very small, very brief feeling of hope. On the complete opposite side of Trump, Bernie isn't so focused on "making America great again" as he is on "saving the world, and bettering life for every human/animal/plant on it". <3

And a side-note: He spent a year attending Brooklyn College! He's practically our alumni!

This is an article describing the downfall of the American dream. it talks about how poor economics have lead to Americas rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer; this concept has lead to a decline in the middle class and according to the article it will lead to a major decrease in america's power as a nation.

  5. http://wnpr.org/post/searching-american-dream-immigration-under-trump

Jumping the bandwagon here, but I think the Dream is dead, or at least dying on its death bed, for immigrants. Trump's immigration advisor is Kris Kobach who was responsible for creating a law that curved through the constitution and the amendments in order to profile people in Arizona. This law was essentially made to identify illegal immigrants. Now he is our immigration advisor...

The American Association of University Women's The Simple Truth about the Gender Pay Gap succinctly addresses these issues by explaining factors to the pay gap in the United States; age, race, and education level; and even the state. Recently they have updated information on disability status, sexual orientation, and gender identity. This relates to my research topic and contains shocking statistics.

  8. “Regarding the fitness craze: America has lost its soul; now it's trying to save its body.”
    ― George Carlin, Brain Droppings
I was reading this book and there was an American dream quote but I don't have the book on me so this will do. So basically George talks about America's fitnezz craze. It's funny how he mentions that America has ''lost its soul...'' Almost like he alludes to how many Americans have lost faith into the American Dream

Day after day, you see the deterioration of gender roles as more and more organizations call out people who still adhere to the stereotypes.

This article describes the downfall of the American Dream and how it no longer exists anymore. The article also explains how even before the current economic crisis exsisted, workers were working harder for less and holding big debts. Record numbers of workers endured long searches for employment desperately. Those who had jobs were constantly in fear over their employment, health care and retirement.
